Best Duane's World Episode ever

Thanks to the great acting of Marc Thiele, Serge Jespers and Tom Krcha, this turned out to be a great episode. The code and tunes bits involve Marc's German Metal band Spoiler (well worth checking out) as well as Flex 4 Data Paging using PHP on the back end.

Duane's World Season Two Opener!

The first episode of Duane's World Season II is out. This special two-part episode covers Adobe MAX in Milan, Italy, and San Francisco (will be featured in part 2) plus interviews with RedMonk founder James Governor. Code and Tunes features a tutorial on how to use BlazeDS to build a 3-tier architecture and invoke services using AMF from a Flex front end.

The interview with James is very cool as he is very modest about RedMonk's accomplishments. RedMonk has been voted a major force in the IT industry and has re-written a lot of the rules of how the analyst industry works in IT.

Duane's World 17 - Tagga.com, ScatterHeart and AIR tutorial

This episode of Duane's World features an interview with Tagga.com founder Amielle Lake. Tagga.com is a very compelling gateway to using mobile for web-based campaigns. Amielle's company has built out a great feature set on tagga.com.

The code and tunes section has a tutorial from James Ward on writing out files to a hard drive in Adobe AIR. The source code is below. Canadian band Scatterheart supplies two great tracks for this episode.

This episode starts in New York and ends with a run down Solar Coaster on Whistler Blackcomb.

Duane's World Episode 10

Duane's World on Adobe TV and InsideRIA has now reached into double digits with Episode 10. In this show, Flash guru Clive Goodinson shows an in depth demo of the Pixton online comic strip creator and discusses how he balanced AJAX, Flash and PHP within the application. Clive also gives a tutorial on how to create comics on Pixton by building a Duane's World Comic strip.

The Codes and Tunes tutorial in this episode shows how to draw simple vector graphics in Flex Builder 3 with music guests Canadian rockers “6th Avenue Nightmare”.

Duane's World 9 - Tim O'Reilly and John Markoff @ FooCamp

This episode of Duane's World is by far my favorite and has two spectacular interviews. One is with Web 2.0 guru and media mogul Tim O'Reilly (founder - O'Reilly Media); the second interview is a killer exploration of the new media with New York Times Reporter John Markoff. During this interview, we discuss the Iranian Missile test Photoshop debacle and the importance of a free, independent press for any democracy. John raises some great thoughts on why we might be in ambiguity for a few years. Tim provides some interesting thoughts on the future of technology as well as mind-body hacking and what Foo Camp is all about.

BitPakkit (a.k.a. Ben Watson) provides the mix for Code and Tunes. The Code and Tunes segment is based on fault event detection and handling as submitted by Matt MacKenzie. Very worthwhile for anyone who wants to learn how to interact with remote resources in Flex or AIR.

I have to say that Duane's World has been more successful than I ever imagined and I am honored by the guests who are willing to be interviewed for the show. This is truly a humbling experience. Enjoy!

Duane's World Episode 7

In this episode we explore LiveCycle ES including demonstrating an AIR Client written by Jorg Knippschild on Adobe in Munich. Dave Liao and Vlad Ghelesel from Ensemble Systems are interviewed and discuss trends in LiveCycle ES development including coupling Flex and AIR. The Code and Tunes segment features great high-quality Imperial metal from my good friend Kurt Phillips' band Warhag.

The code samples will be uploaded to duanesworldtv.org later.

A personal interview with Andre Michelle, Webinale 2008 and Spoiler

Duane's World episode 6 is now out. I was really grateful to have been able to spend time interviewing Flash guru Andre Michelle. He discusses his new venture (www.hobnox.com) and shows off some cool screenshots of the new audio tools. These are really amazing!! Andre's work takes Flash to the ultimate edge.

The music for the Code and Tunes sessions is provided by Spoiler, my newest favorite metal band from Germany. Bass player Marc Thiele hand picked the songs for the video. If you get a chance to see Spoiler live - check them out! The code and tunes shows some Flex code to work with audio and explains how to add a pause, play and stop button to an audio player in a few minutes. Thanks to all the guys from Webinale 2008 (Felix, Stefan et al) for appearing in the video and helping me with interviews and location logistics as well as putting on a great conference! Here is the show. Feel free to use the embed code to redistribute wherever!

Oh yeah - there is also film of driving at 210 KPH on the autobahn!

Duanes World Episode 5 - E.B.U., Switzerland, Flex and Helcion!

Duane's World Episode five is now live. Special music guests and one of my favorite bands Helcion (Check them out!!!) supply ripping music for the Code and Tunes segment while I show how to work with video in Flex Builder 3. Other guests include Marcus Metzner (S4M - Germany) and Roger Roberts (RTBF - Belguim). Discussions include metadata for archiving media packages as well as the SOA infrastructure for enabling Media Assets to be repurposed for the web to meet new distribution and business models.

Duane's World TV - Episode 3 live

Episode 3 is now live. In this episode, I talk about Search Engine Optimization. Some of the tips are talked about on a previous blog post however a lot of the information is new including an interview with the gurus at 6s Marketing.

Note that the tricks of search engine monitoring are linked specifically to the Google personalized search page but do apply to regular page rankings as well. Why else do you think Adobe got #1 rankings for such terms as "SOA White Paper" and "Enterprise Developer Relations"?

The first show starts with a small talk on Web Services and SOA, continues with an interview with the guys from Nitobi, and concludes with a lesson on how to use the Flex Builder version 3 WSDL import wizard to build a full web service client.
