It might be possible that the dials did in fact spin faster during the time when a plane flew over however I would suspect that it is coincidental. The project pages for Semaphore state that " four ten-foot wide illuminated disks rotate every 7.2 seconds". The audio signal has a series of clicks that seem to sound like a combination lock turning. Sometimes the length and number of clicks seems to be faster/longer. I am not sure what kind of key this might be since it is beyond the perception of a human to count the clicks.

I live in Vancouver, Canada and cannot actually see the discs. If someone could video them with the audio signal overlaid and post a link up here it would be really appreciated. My perception of the system seems to be that some of the audio signals are redundant with the visual clues. Adobe operates like this as a corporation (accessibility options in software for hearing imparied etc...).

I would doubt that there is any mechanism to detect airplanes built in to the system.Duane Nickullhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08767498160563891543noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-17460203.post-1155697604026875202006-08-15T20:06:00.000-07:002006-08-15T20:06:00.000-07:00Hi, I'm Joann I put the post up on Metroblogging. ...Hi, I'm Joann I put the post up on Metroblogging. One of my taxi customers told me the "things" turn faster when an airplane flys over? Could this be true?Joannhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18009936737403442988noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-17460203.post-1155691616191551232006-08-15T18:26:00.000-07:002006-08-15T18:26:00.000-07:00wow!
